Avalon Communal

2024
Avalon Communal reimagines coworking design through a thoughtful blend of materiality and functionality. Developed by Avalon-based architecture firm RAMA, this innovative space caters to modern creatives, freelancers, and professionals seeking a reprieve from Sydney's bustling cityscape.
At the core of the design is the use of ply, a simple yet striking material that adds texture and interest through its natural grain. RAMA founder Thomas Martin explains that the design intent was to pair simple with bold. The team used ply as a neutral base, layering in variations of red to create bold, unexpected moments throughout the space.
One of the standout features is the use of red travertine crazy pavers on the floor, complete with matching red grout. Thomas adds that while it’s a bold choice, it feels timeless and even a bit funky and brash. The red travertine is carried through the space, including the table slabs, which are paired with contrasting white bases for added visual interest.
In addition to its striking design, Avalon Communal is equipped with modern electrical solutions, including high-power USB-C outlets for fast charging, ensuring the space is as functional as it is beautiful.
RAMA’s design philosophy aligns with ZETR’s focus on function and understated beauty, resulting in a coworking space that perfectly balances style and practicality.
